Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve

Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve is located in one of the most remote and well protected parts of the Ecuadorian Amazon. Eco Friendly Highlights:

The Ecolodge is built entirely using traditional Achuar architecture. The entire lodge is powered by a solar energy system designed to provide 80% of the lodge’s average energy needs. Their canoes are equipped with four-stroke outboard engines, which reduces noise and pollution considerably. Solar-heated shower bags provide 5 gallons of hot water per room daily.

Black Sheep Inn

The Black Sheep Inn, perched at 10,500 feet in the Ecuadorian highlands south of Quito, has transparent roofs to let sunlight into the indoor flower gardens. Relax around their self-designed wood stove fireplaces, play scrabble and sip a glass of Ecuadorian Rum or a hot chocolate, and after a long hike leave your tensions behind in the sauna.

The inn has an organic garden, they recycle and use Solar and Wind energy. They are a part of the local community and supports it, (They established a local Public Library/Computer Learning Center stocked with over 1000 Spanish language books and 8 computers.) Black Sheep Inn has sponsored several workshops with tech assistance from US Peace Corps Volunteers: family planning, guiding skills in native flora and fauna, guiding ethics, first-aid for hikers, nutrition and women’s health, and knitting. They provided an interest-free loan to a neighbor enabling him to start a horseback riding business.
